Description Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-27 03:20:17 UTC
db4 should be supported in gentoo. There are a number of packages which block
this. This bug collects those bugs.

Note that the initial support is for db-4.0.14 only, as I have not tested db-4.1.

Paul: How many of these need to be resolve before db-4.0 and 4.1 can go ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" ?
Comment 2 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-11 01:08:20 UTC
I'm mainly waiting on #23583 (courier) and #23586 (maildrop)

pam also has a problem with db4... at least with 4.1.x... woodchip has a pam-0.77 which alleviates this though. so maybe add pam to the list?
Comment 6 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-16 03:23:04 UTC
I can assure that pam does work with db-4.0.14. There is a reason that I didn't unmask db-4.1 yet. Many packages break on it. The best way would probably be to configure those packages in such a way that they will compile and link against db-4.0.14 even when db-4.1.x is present.
Comment 7 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2003-08-19 10:16:55 UTC
added netatalk dependancy
Comment 8 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2003-08-28 16:14:22 UTC
paul: the nvi stuff is resolved, that leaves only heimdal, and I haven't seen any db4 problems in nearly a month now.
Comment 9 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-29 09:05:36 UTC
Ok, I think we can mark db-4.0 stable in the near future. If there are no bug next week you can do it (I'll be unavailable for at least 3 weeks). There are still db-4.1 issues though, so I don't think we are fully ready yet to unmask db-4.1 yet. But if you want to handle the bugs and first tested on the newest version of the packages that use db-4.1 (look at http://dev.gentoo.org/~pauldv/) you could unmask it. Just be aware that I will not be around to help fixing bugs.

Paul: Ok, I've marked 4.0.14-r2 as stable now on x86, and put it in testing on all other arches.

I'm going to give it a week or two and see if other arches or any other bugs show up for it, and meanwhile test all programs that I can with 4.1 again.

If nothing goes wrong, i'll mask 4.1 as testing in one or two weeks.
