Description Alexander Berntsen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-03-25 11:02:39 UTC
Looks like it should be all-rights-reserved.
Comment 1 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2014-04-03 07:06:33 UTC
This is package.masked since 2008 for security reasons.
@Games team, do you want to keep this package?

do you have an alternative game? -.-

Certainly not. See bug 505778 comment #3.

I suggest that we go for all-rights-reserved then, plus mirror restriction.
Comment 4 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-04-03 17:37:19 UTC
all-rights-reserved doesn't imply a mirror restriction. Show someplace where it says we're not allowed to mirror things.

Sure it does.

Unfortunately, copyright law doesn't work like this. Without a license (or permission from the copyright holder), we are not allowed to redistribute the distfile.

For example, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright#Exclusive_rights for an explanation.

Just saying it does doesn't make it true.

right below that is a section on Fair Use.

The creators of these mods upload them to file mirroring sites for express purpose of getting their content out. Not mirroring them ourselves just means the packages die off. Pretty soon you don't have any mods from more than a year or two left.

"Fair Use" depends on the country. Where are our servers located at?
Comment 8 Julian Ospald 2014-04-03 19:01:38 UTC
anyhow, mirror restriction is already set:

# grep RESTRICT /usr/portage/eclass/games-mods.eclass
RESTRICT="mirror strip"
