I'd like to do the rewrite, but i know someone was going to do it. At least that's what i heard some (three?) weeks ago. Anyway. Seems like no one is doing it. I'll make some thoughts about the rewrite until seemant is available again.
This appears to have been dropped... Has there been any progress? Is there a location to keep an eye on the progress of Gentoo Stats?
I'm working on it right now.
Great! :-)
gentoo-stats.org is available, a subdomain will likely be available soon.
Is the installation for this no longer available in portage? Seems like it would make sense to install it that way since this is a Gentoo specific project rather than installing a shell script from a website.
An ebuild will be provided soon. But for now, the only way to install gbd is the tarball on www.gentoo-stats.org. And please, read the FAQ. :)
I am rightfully admonished, reading the FAQ. :-) Is there a way to make use of multiple Keys? I have several machines and would like to have one account where I could keep track of all the keys. (I use Gentoo at work.) This looks like a great revival and retasking of this thought. I'm glad to see Gentoo Stats getting back off the ground. Thanks foryour hard work.
Hi Josiah, thanks for your response. At this time there is only one client-system (computer/workstation) per gbd-client/UNIQUE_KEY allowed and possible. But *perhaps*, we'll change this, so that you could "administrate" all your workstations with only one UNIQUE_ID/gbd-account. But this is far in the future. :)
Cool, I'll look forward to it. Thanks again for getting this up. I'm already checking out the stats for it and have several machines running on it. Is it ready for project evangelization yet? I was about to go do some of that, but figured I'd ask if you want me to wait for it to get into portage or something else. <mode type="visionary"> Maybe... (in a far far away galaxy) this could even develop into a way to centrally manage the software running on various Gentoo systems like RedHat has in place or provide a service to install internally that would allow such central management.</mode>
I'd like to put the ebuilds for gentoo-stats.org in portage. I'd also like to have a small webpage up under the gentoo-tools project scope that explains gentoo-stats.org is an -experimental- project trying to revive the old stats project. Ideas, thoughts?
I'd like to see that also. Joining would be much easier.
The necessary ebuilds are in portage. The client no longer requires root permissions. Please report bugs to me.
Sorry, didn't check my mail for a few days. Pieter, is there a specfic reason why the package is called "basc" and not "gentoo-stats"? If not I'd like to change the name.
As gentoo-stats.org died today I request for a new (this time official) stats server. Please reopen this bug!
