The Gentoo stats project has a great potential of providing a harware compatibility list. In a way it already does. If the Expansion Card section was enhanced and expanded to include things like Rom Drives and USB/FireWire devices, especially video cards then this would be a great resource to come and see if someone else has "it" running. It almost would build itself and would allow for a dynamic list that wouldn't be outdated and need further updating over and over. Perhaps it would need to be broken down by architecture or different sections to be more affective, but I think this service would be a great help to many people, especially those coming from Distros like RH who are used to a hardware compatability list. We'd also be able to encourage gentoo stats participation as being helpful to both developers and users and make the project much more visible.
Sorry, I meant to leave a link to the part of Gentoo Stats that I was referring too. Here it is. http://stats.gentoo.org/statistics-cards.htm
reassigning to robbat2 who is (I believe) working on gentoo-stats atm.
No I am not working on gentoo-stats. All I was doing was the CFLAGS generation.
adding myself to CC.
Don't know about the current status, I'm planing a rewrite/redesign on -stats, db design (performance/code cleanup) and the client (want it to be with python). After that, we'll need to find some place to host it
