A few days ago I updated my gentoo with 'emerge world' and ppp got updated to version 2.4.3-r16. I hadn't updated for a couple of weeks before that. Now I'm trying to get a friend to connect to my computer with VPN, but it seems that pptpd/ppp fails because of: Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: MGR: Launching /usr/sbin/pptpctrl to handle cl ient Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: local address = 10.7.13.200 Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: remote address = 10.7.13.201 Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: pppd options file = /etc/ppp/options.ppt pd Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: Client 65.94.189.99 control connection s tarted Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: Received PPTP Control Message (type: 1) Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: Made a START CTRL CONN RPLY packet Aug 31 21:36:59 vez pptpd[14512]: CTRL: I wrote 156 bytes to the client. Just want to add that the VPN was working fine before that and also sorry for the bad line breaks -- maybe I should learn not to paste from a 80-char term piped in less(1). Anyway, just look up the "HERE HERE HERE" I added in the output.
You are supposed to rebuild external ppp plugins every time you upgrade pppd. Currently, there is no way in portage to force a re-emerge packages at the moment of net-dialup/ppp upgrade, so you will have to run following command every time you switch to another version of net-dialup/ppp: emerge --oneshot pptpd Closed as CANTFIX.
