Description Francesco Saverio Proto 2006-12-14 03:21:08 UTC
I did emerge --update world on my gentoo system, and my ppp version changed from 2.4.3 to 2.4.4.

I did revdep-rebuild but no package was recompiled.

After this my pptpd package stopped working, and in /var/log/messages I get this line:

Dec 13 19:39:56 tuscolomesh pppd[18642]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so is for pppd version 2.4.3, this is 2.4.4

I emerged again pptpd

emerge pptpd

and the problem was fixed.

But I think revdep-rebuild had to compile pptpd automatically? I'm I wrong? Is thia a bug in the portage?

Thanks!

Saverio Proto

revdep-rebuild doesn't check such stuff at all... way beyond it's scope.

I cannot fix it on the current portage.

I asked for another kind of dependency in http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel/42514/focus=42515 . Such feature would fix this kind of bugs.

Lets keep the stuff in one bug... :)
