Fixed upstream in next minor release. Minor release is in tree.
sys-cluster/pmix-4.2.8 builds on my machine successfully with
cc --version
cc (Gentoo 13.2.1_p20240210 p14) 13.2.1 20240210

Suggestion: Drop 4.2.2-r1, add 4.2.9 and 5.0.2 as latest at the moment.
Close the bug afterwards.
