Upstream have an active gtk3 branch in their git repo where this apparently is already ported to libcanberra_gtk3.
mail-client/claws-mail-4.0.0 is masked for testing since 2021-07-10.
Problem is that claws-mail-4.0.0 has quite some drawing issues. I do not want to unmask the 4.0.0 release because it's not ready for general usage. I hope that with a 4.0.1+ release this will become better.

Ah, thanks, I was wondering if it was safe to try it yet. I guess I'll wait for now.

I just noted that mail-client/claws-mail-4.1.0-r1[appindicator] still depends on dev-libs/libindicate:3[gtk] which also depends on GTK2.

I plan on keeping gtk+2 branch of claws-mail around for a while, but to move forward here we could drop support for USE=libcanberra in this branch?
I guess it will be the best option for keeping the old versions around more time :/
