Description Sébastien B. 2005-07-08 13:24:57 UTC
I try to install Gentoo 2005.0 on a Pentium II, I've follow the QuickInstall Guide.
I've this error at the first step of the bootstrap :

!!! ERROR: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.11-r2 failed.
!!! Function compile_headers, Line 389, Exitcode 2
!!! prepare failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Follow the QuickInstall Guide (x86) until the
'/usr/portage/script/bootstrap.sh' command line
Actual Results:
I obtain this error message :

Preprocessed source stored into /var/tmp/portage/linux-headers-2.6.11-r2/temp/ccWC4wOA.out file.

I found this "Attachment option" to late...

Please destroy the 2 last post, sorry.

I can't delete them, this is not a forum. Please read
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/bugzilla-howto.xml (not quite finished yet, but
useful anyway).

You also forgot to reopen the bug.

the error probably doesnt have anything to do with linux-headers but rather
either your hardware or the toolchain

must I try with 2.4 kernel/header ?

what can I do to repear this ? remove pci-cards check memory ?

thank for your help and sorry for my english :s

I also have a problem with bootstrap.sh failing on the linux-headers-2.6.11-r2.
Attached is the last lines from the bootstrap.sh (emerge error), cpu info,
make.conf. Let me know if you need anything else.

Forgot the attachment on the last post

Mine was solved. Bad memory with both the original and the testing stick. I
tried a third stick and it worked fine.
