hotplug-ng and pcmciutils require modprobe to load all modules matching an alias string, not only the first. This patch -- not yet attached by upstream -- allows modprobe to do so. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

does upstream know about said bug/patch ?
I sent patch to upstream a few days ago, haven't got a reply yet, though.
Dominik, did you get a reply from upstream yet?
unfortunately, I haven't received a reply from upstream yet.
Dominik, what is the status of your patch? Was it included in upstream module-init-tools-3.2-pre2?
Upstream is a lazy bum and has been on a vacation tromping around europe for a month or two. Now he is off talking at a conference for another week, so who knows when he will get around to accepting the patch :) Anyway, the patch looks good to me, please feel free to apply it, the hotplug-ng work would really like this to go in, and I'll keep bugging upstream to take it eventually...
upstream actually sent me a reply on this patch, he's not excited about the macro (mis)use; hopefully I'll get to integrate it into current module-init-tools really soon now. I'm quite busy, though...
http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/5/10/40 -- module-init-tools-3.2-pre4 is out and handles this case. Can we get an ebuild for -pre4 into portage? Or do you want to wait for module-init-tools-3.2? Also, should this bug be rejected and bug # 84230 (which is a version bump, after all) be used instead?
I'd like to have -pre4 in portage before linux-2.6.12 goes final in order to resolve bug #84234 - vapier, did you want to take care of the version bump?
just to clarify: bug 84234 depends on PCMCIA changes still only in -mm. They're likely to be merged for 2.6.13-rc1, though. Nonetheless it'd be excellent to have the infrastructure (patched-up sysfs, bug 84228 , and this module-init-tools ) ready when this merge hits Linus' tree.
Aha - I was under the impression that the PCMCIA sub-system changed were in 2.6.12-rcX. Thank you for clearing that up - and yes, we should have the infrastructure ready before the change hits Linus' tree.
sorry for the delay, but i'd prefer to not touch this package if i can avoid it also, if you have patches/fixes for module-init-tools, rusty is pretty responsive, so you can e-mail him the changes directly
-pre4 is in the tree, but I see no trace of your patch. Can we consider this RESOLVED anyway as they fixed it in a different manner probably?
Yes, this issue is fixed in module-init-tools-3.2-pre4.
