I open this bug for adding the following artwork as Gentoo Artwork. I confirm that the original creator of this work is releasing Genchu as CC-BY-SA/2.5: https://github.com/TheDarkBug/uwufetch/blob/main/res/gentoo.png public issue: https://github.com/TheDarkBug/uwufetch/issues/46 Reproducible: Always
As far as I can see and tell: - The license choice is sound and respects the artwork it derives from - We know who the author is, at least digitally - The artwork is professional - The artwork has a unique style - The artwork is not offensive So I don't see any blockers here to addition, personally. PS: I think it's called "GentOwO" rather then Genchu? Or both?
The author wrote "genchu" so it should be called "genchu" I suppose https://github.com/TheDarkBug/uwufetch/issues/46#issuecomment-805672491
I vote yes.
I vote no Reason: The gentoo logo is a registered trademark. The registration can become legally void, if we do not use the trademark as it was registered or if we tolerate that the trade mark is used as decorative clip art in new logos. IANAL, but I think we should rather reduce the usage of manipulated copies of the trademark. Please consult a lawyer before voting "yes". I understand, that users want a "fanlogo" to play around with. (Check the 2 different debian logos for example. They do the same and document it very clear) Artwork should provide a second logo for this reason. @Alice: Why do you think we need just one vote from trustees?
I vote yes as well. Based on the discussion in Bug 778284, I would agree with "not worrying too much" at this point of time. Also I am voting as a part of the artwork team here. And as part of the artwork team I would agree with the points sping has been pointing out. If there are any legal issue which restrict the approval, the trustees might still intervene and decline to get the artwork added. But purely speaking as part of the artwork team, I am fine with the artwork and that's why I am voting yes. Also, personally I think it is great if we get new artwork added. Especially as a signal effect for the community. So if there are any issues blocking this, I think we (we as the artwork team) should do our best to remove these issues as soon as possible to make adding new artwork as easy as possible for the whole community. Just my personal opinion on this though. Others might gladly disagree.
@jstein from https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Artwork/FoundationArtworkApproval#Approval_votes "To ensure that the approval is sufficiently supported, at least a majority of the Artwork project members have to approve. Additionally, at least one approval must be from a Gentoo Foundation trustee (who may or may not be part of the Artwork project). " Could be that I'm understanding this incorrectly, but it clearly states that additionally we need at least one vote from Gentoo Trustees for approval.
@arzano I completely agree with you. +1
Following the discussion on bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/778284 I vote yes as trustees Trustees are informed and are represented, also trustees email address is added in CC, as from the FoundationArtworkApproval wiki page. Gentoo artwork project should help the inclusion of new Gentoo related artwork that follow the approval guide. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Artwork/FoundationArtworkApproval
For the record, and after reviewing Robin's comment from https://bugs.gentoo.org/778284#c1, I am voting YES, PLEASE on this artwork. The more the merrier! The more fun, the better!
The majority agreed on adding this work to the Gentoo artwork wiki
