Emerging the gsview-4.6 (latest version) ebuild also installs an epstool binary. However, the epstool installed by gsview is version 2.3 (2 years old), whereas the version of the separate epstool ebuild in portage is 3.04. Hence, installing gsview silently downgrades the installed epstool. gsview should depend on the separate epstool instead of installing its own, or should install its own in a hidden location. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Created attachment 45504 [details] New ebuild removed the dobin epstool. tested. emerges ok
Removing the dobin epstool stops the install of it. GSView 4.6.1 is in beta and no longer includes epstool anyway so lets stop installing it now. Ive submitted aonther bug 73768 for an epstool upgrade too. http://www.ghostscript.com/article/63.html for 4.61 beta release
Should be able to mark 4.6 stable now too, please
Yes, would be nice if gsview didn't install epstool. If you allow me to modify your ebuilds, I could do this. Just tell me.
yeah, go ahead
Given the simple fix of removing the bin/epstool from the dobin line, this could be closed very quickly.
fixed in gsview-4.6-r1
