This blocks removal of some py2 stuff. Please port or lastrite.
Now I see www-servers/automx2. So maybe we should stabilize that, and lastrite this?
@mschiff: I wrote automx2 for sys4 as a Python 3 based replacement for the old software (feel free to ask Patrick about specifics). As for stabilising automx2, I wanted to do that with version 2020.0, but I cannot create an updated ebuild because I am blocked by https://bugs.gentoo.org/705714 . I don't know how much work it is to stabilise a Python package in Gentoo. If it is not too much of a bother, you could indeed stabilise version 2019.0, but that one is lacking the LDAP features introduced with 2020.0.
I see no reason for a new package automx2 here because upstream has not really changed. Lets just bump automx to a new version to avoid confusion. @Ralph: What do you think? You are of course welcome to co-maintain it ;)
(In reply to Marc Schiffbauer from comment #3) > I see no reason for a new package automx2 here because upstream > has not really changed. Pardon? I have rewritten automx2 from scratch, not a single line of code has been kept from the old automx (which was written by a former sys4-employee who you probably know). Installation and configuration are also completely different. The only common denominator is the name "automx", which I don't even like, but Patrick insisted. :-P > Lets just bump automx to a new version to avoid confusion. Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's a no from me. I deliberately created a new ebuild to avoid confusion. I think the old automx ebuild should be last-rited like other builds that only support Python 2.x. Also, I will remain primary maintainer of the new ebuild, what with me being the author. ;-) If you wish to co-maintain the ebuild instead of the Proxy Maintainers team, I have no problem with that, and I imagine neither would the team.

But thats not theplatform to discuss this further :-P But do you have commit access to the tree? I assumed yoyu are not a dev because you are not using a @gentoo.org address. > > Lets just bump automx to a new version to avoid confusion. > Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's a no from me. Its not unusual that version 2 of a software is a complete rewrite under the hood. And I personally dont like it when software has some kind of version number in its name. This normally only happens when there is a fork or something. But as we also have a new author here it *might* be wise to have some (slightly) other name here. So I am fine with "automx2" as the name. > Also, I will remain primary maintainer of the new ebuild, what with me being > the author. ;-) If you wish to co-maintain the ebuild instead of the Proxy > Maintainers team, I have no problem with that, and I imagine neither would > the team. Its your decision. I would be happy to help and proxy-maint it for you and it would be logically for me as we have a closer communication as you might have with someone from the proxy-maint Team. So from me: - lets stick with automx2 - lets last-rite automx cheers.
Ping. So how do we proceed here?
(In reply to Michał Górny from comment #6) > Ping. So how do we proceed here? automx2 is in the tree. We can lastrite automx. I will do this now
