Description Vasilis Lourdas 2017-08-11 19:13:39 UTC
Could you please bump the latest from the "still" branch of the libreoffice binary package? I understand that 5.4.0 is very new, but at least we could get a bump for the latest version of the previous branch.

Thank you.

Unlikely to happen, 5.4 is a solid release already and 5.4.1 released in the not too distant future should be a nice upgrade for everyone currently using 5.3.4.

I'm referring to the binary release of libreoffice, not the source package. The last time I checked (a few minutes ago), there's only:

[I] app-office/libreoffice-bin
     Available versions:  5.2.7.2^st 5.2.7.2-r1^st {aqua gnome java kde ELIBC="FreeBSD" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5"}
     Installed versions:  5.2.7.2-r1^st(07:49:47 μμ 29/05/2017)(java kde -aqua -gnome ELIBC="-FreeBSD" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7 -python3_4 -python3_5" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 -python3_5")
     Homepage:            http://www.libreoffice.org
     Description: A full office productivity suite. Binary package

So, it's 5.2.7.2. Instead, the source package is:

* app-office/libreoffice
     Available versions:  5.2.7.2 ~5.3.4.2 ~5.4.0.3 **5.4.9999 **9999 {aqua bluetooth +branding coinmp collada +cups dbus debug eds firebird gltf gnome googledrive gstreamer +gtk gtk3 java jemalloc kde libressl mysql odk pdfimport postgres quickstarter telepathy test vlc ELIBC="FreeBSD" LIBREOFFICE_EXTENSIONS="nlpsolver scripting-beanshell scripting-javascript wiki-publisher" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5 python3_6" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5 python3_6"}
     Homepage:            http://www.libreoffice.org
     Description: A full office productivity suite

So, again, the latest stable source version is 5.2.7.2. Since you wrote about the upgrade from 5.3.4, I suppose you mean the source package, but from the testing branch.

Anyway, if the 5.4 branch is a solid release, maybe you could change the version number in this bug and make it 5.4.0 or even 5.4.1 when it comes out. The initial 5.2.0 release was a year ago and the subsequent releases were only bug fixes.

There is no binary package without a source package, and binary packages are only made from stable versions.

Does this only apply to libreoffice or all Gentoo binary packages?

This is Gentoo bugzilla - when we say stable we mean 'Gentoo stable' which has an entirely separate meaning than upstreams'. libreoffice-bin does not package upstream's binary package but is built against current 'Gentoo stable' libs.

I can't speak for other projects but since only rather big projects are getting bin-packaged, and big projects tend to have a plethora of dependencies, it is rather painful to keep them up to date for ~arch keywords as soon as subslot rebuilds are involved, and libreoffice has several of those.
