build.log.bz2

Now that gcc:4.7 is ia64 stable, I've switched from gcc-4.6.3 and rebuilt my whole tree. While libreoffice (although not keyworded on ia64) was successfully built with gcc:4.6, it's failing with gcc:4.7.

From build.log, relevant part seems to be:

/var/tmp/portage/app-office/libreoffice-4.2.3.3/work/libreoffice-4.2.3.3/workdir/CxxObject/oox/source/crypto/Standard2007Engine.o: In function `_GLOBAL__sub_I_Standard2007Engine.cxx':

No idea what happens here.

ia64, toolchain, any idea? or should we just close this as cantfix?

Given the fact even debian does not bother anymore I don't think we can help much... :)

Well, I don't know why this bug report has been assigned to OpenOffice Team as it's definitely a bug in the toolchain, as I initially reported it (regression from gcc:4.6).

First evidences of such GPREL22 errors can be found during the gcc 3.x -> 4.0 switch era [1][2].

Still problematic with gcc-4.8.3 that's now ia64 stable.

Ouch, gcc-4.8.3 is _not_ ia64 stable at the moment. Sorry for the mistake!

I don't know if something has changed upstream or if I'm once again experiencing a transient issue (another example is bug #497514 with Firefox), but I've successfully built LibreOffice 4.3.1.2 using the same ia64 stable GCC 4.7.3-r1 that however had problems building LibreOffice 4.2.3.3...

OK... don't think office team can help you much here. If you need us, please cc us back.

Out of curiosity tried to check if https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60465 helps libreoffice. Merge did not fail
at least with default flags:

$ qlop -tHgv app-office/libreoffice
libreoffice-9999: Fri Jun 16 10:14:29 2017: 5 hours, 43 minutes, 49 seconds
libreoffice: 1 times

guppy # gcc --version
gcc (Gentoo 6.3.0 p1.0) 6.3.0

You're right. And as I reported in comment #9, I already had success with app-office/libreoffice-4.3.1.2 and sys-devel/gcc-4.7.3-r1. So I don't know if upstream bug #60465 really was the cause.

And now that sys-devel/gcc-5.4.0-r3 is stable on ia64, I've rebuilt my whole system, including app-office/libreoffice-5.3.3.2. Everything's fine :-)

Would you like that I close this BR with RESOLVED/WORKSFORME status? Or is simply LibreOffice merge successful because of changes in LibreOffice source code that no more triggers relocation?

I think even FIXED is sort if true.
After all we tried hard to fix the toolchain and seemingly succeeded :)

Too fast for me, thanks ;-)

Well, I fear that Gremlins are still hiding in the toolchain [1][2].
