I've seen it before listed in Bugzilla, but after installing module-init-tools 3.07-pre7 via an emerge -u world, my kernel now gives the dreaded FATAL: ide-tape, etc. error messages on boot: Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module off not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module st not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module ide_probe_mod not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module ide_tape not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module off not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module st not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module ide_probe_mod not found. Jan 27 21:34:06 asteria-linux modprobe: FATAL: Module ide_tape not found. I had recompiled my kernel right after installing module-init-tools, so that might be an indicator on reproducing the problem. Scared me to death! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -u world and installed module-init-tools_pre7 2. worked on a kernel not long after, recompiled it 3. reboot and noted errors listed above Actual Results: System boots, but my heart skipped a few beats. Expected Results: I certainly didn't expect those errors.
