Description Matt Beswick (Soir) 2011-07-16 19:00:36 UTC
Newly updated to 1.10.2 in recent emerge world. After opening quite minimal applications (links, terminal-0.4.6) CPU usage for X approaches 50% of single core - not 100% and unresponsive, just slow. Usage for terminal emulator is around 20% mark too - not usual behaviour. Usage becomes even higher (70%) when I switch out to a framebuffer. Could be linked to 2D acceleration.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start X
2.Open any application
Actual Results:
High CPU use, reduced speed for running apps

Expected Results:
Lower CPU use. I can't make X work as efficiently as it did before, even going back to previous version.

Current troubleshooting done:
1. Stepped back to 1.9.5. No change.
2. gdb on running X while in framebuffer (output to follow) - lots of calls to EXA driver. Acceleration issue?
3. Fell back to XAA, then noaccel. Similar symptoms with even higher CPU usage. (Currently am using no xorg.conf at all, since my conf is old and unnecessary now - lack of it doesn't make any significant difference.)

emerge --info to follow.

Probably duplicate of bug #372989. You shloud upgrade x11-terms/terminal to 0.4.8.
Comment 4 Matt Beswick (Soir) 2011-07-16 21:41:43 UTC
Yep, you're right; resolved with terminal-0.4.8. Thanks.
