All 2.2_rcs I tried, as well as 2.2.0_alpha1, have been running well on my ia64 machine. I am now at _alpha4 without any issues.

I think the bug is not a dupe of bug #253802, since that bug is about a hardmask against >=2.2_pre, but this bug here is about the keyword mask of recent 2.2.0_alpha versions. (The ~ia64 keyword was removed somewhen after _alpha1.)
Did I misunderstand the other bug, or can you confirm the difference?
