Description Alessandro Guido 2010-08-12 14:59:39 UTC
As a fix for bug #319331 (referencing upstream bug http://crbug.com/44544), gpu rendering has been unconditionally disabled in the ebuild.

However, in the upstream bug it is specified that there is a requirement on nvidia-drivers >=190 to fix the reported build breakage. I did not actually try to compile chromium with -Denable_gpu=1, but it seems that a 'opengl' use-flag + a block on <nvidia-drivers-190 should be added to give the opportunity to enable such rendering mode.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Alessandro Guido 2010-08-12 17:00:45 UTC
Indeed, it builds fine with nvidia-drivers-256.35 and a modified ebuild which has -Denable_gpu=1
Comment 2 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-08-12 19:53:59 UTC
Okay, I'd like to get some reports from other people running nvidia-drivers with various versions before I change the ebuilds.
Comment 3 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2010-08-13 04:35:57 UTC
I have been building chromium-9999 with -Denable_gpu=1 and nvidia-drivers-195.x for some time.

I do not think I have ever run a build with it disabled (except for bug 330463). My overlay has always had it turned on.
Comment 4 Julien Sanchez archtester 2010-08-16 07:30:12 UTC
No problem with 6.0.490.1 which has enable_gpu by default and nvidia-drivers-195.36.31.

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-195.36.31 was built with the following:
USE="acpi gtk (multilib) -custom-cflags"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1"
Comment 5 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-08-26 05:38:44 UTC
More recent ebuilds enable gpu, but I'll keep this bug open for a while to get more info. If you are using nvidia-drivers, please post here.
Comment 6 Julien Sanchez archtester 2010-08-26 06:19:29 UTC
What additional info do you need? If needed, I can try to recompile exact version 6.0.472.33 with GPU enabled with nvidia 190 and 195 drivers.

Currently, I have no problem with recent ebuilds and nvidia-drivers 195.

I think you can just use the latest 7.x version. I think I'd be mostly interested in nvidia drivers 185 results, because they are marked stable. However, more data about 190 is also useful.

Great, also noted your earlier comment #4.

Oddly, I can't reproduce the build failure with nvidia-drivers-185.18.36-r1 and both chromium-6.0.472.51 / chromium-7.0.503.1.

Of course, I have modified chromium-6.0.472.51 to re-enable gpu flag.
