Description Preben Holm 2010-04-19 08:57:42 UTC
The blas-goto ebuild doesn't install anything because the file to download doesn't exist. I tried creating an account at the tacc.utexas.edu website to get access to the downloads manually. However, there are no files with version 1.22 or 1.26.
The latest is GotoBLAS2 version 1.13. I guess the portage version is extremely old.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge blas-goto
Comment 1 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-04-20 06:12:35 UTC
So the latest I can see is 1.30
Comment 2 Thomas Capricelli 2010-05-19 23:40:01 UTC
I have the same problem here:

just doing "emerge blas-goto" on ~amd64:

/temp/build.log
>>> Downloading 'http://www-prc.tacc.utexas.edu/resources/software/login/gotoblas/GotoBLAS-1.26.tar.gz'

Last 3 months I keep trying to register at their website, with no success (they accept the registration data but then don't authorize and don't send a confirmation email (if they are going to at all)).

My understanding is as follows. They refactored the code, added support for NUMA, renamed GotoBLAS to GotoBLAS2, changed versioning. So now there exist GotoBLAS with version 1.30, which is deprecated and not hosted anymore and GotoBLAS2 with versions

GotoBLAS2-1.00.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.01.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.02.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.03.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.04.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.05p1.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.06.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.07p1.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.08.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.09p3.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.10.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.11p1.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.12.tar.gz
GotoBLAS2-1.13.tar.gz

So is this package a candidate for removal then? At the moment it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep it in tree considering that nobody can download the sources. Would it be possible to mirror the sources on Gentoo?

I am slowly working on GotoBLAS2 but if anyone wants to step in, you are welcome. The GotoBLAS2 has quite a few regressions.
We can not keep the sources on the mirror because of the license. This was made pretty clear from upstream actually (bug #208240).
So yeah, we could remove this one.

Hrm. virtual/blas has a hard dep on this. Can that be adjusted? I'd like to stop watching this package fail on missing source file. :)

The depend has multiple other options:

RDEPEND="|| (
      sci-libs/blas-reference
      >=sci-libs/blas-atlas-3.7.39
      sci-libs/blas-goto
      >=sci-libs/mkl-9.1.023
      sci-libs/acml
   )"

Install one of those and everything is fine.
Comment 8 Thomas Capricelli 2011-01-26 19:16:56 UTC
so basically this package should be removed and we should move on #289552 (new gotoblas2 package) ??
Comment 9 Sébastien Fabbro (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-02 21:30:40 UTC
This is a critical bug and it will be removed in 30 days. No more upstream tar ball. It has been replaced with GotoBLAS2 which needs a bit of work (right now on my public dev overlay). Also bug #213259 and bug #258726 among with other problems not reported exist.

Removal scheduled on 02 Apr 2011
Comment 10 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-28 15:45:16 UTC
Package removed from main tree.
