I ran into this problem when trying to emerge gnome. I'm running Gentoo 1.4RC4 on an Ultra 60. The libart_lgpl ebuild generates an access violation. Here's the "Access Violation Summary": LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-libart_lgpl-2.3.10-14758.log" symlink: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/base.pm I was looking around and found a SANDBOX_DISABLED environmental setting. If I run: env SANDBOX_DISABLED=1 emerge libart_lgpl the ebuild succeeds. Without the SANBOX_DISABLED set to 1, it fails consistently. BTW, this is a relatively new system as far as ebuilds - when I do an 'emerge -up system' or 'emerge -up world' the system doesn't return any packages that need updating. I did an 'emerge sync' today. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge gnome 2. OR emerge libart_lgpl Actual Results: I get the following: ------------------------ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY------------------------------- LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-libart_lgpl-2.3.10-14758.log" symlink: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/base.pm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The package does NOT merge. Expected Results: Successfully built & merged. Here's the output from 'emerge info': Portage 2.0.49-r3(default-sparc64-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.1-r4, 2.4.21-sparc- r1) ================================================================ System uname: 2.4.21-sparc-r1 sparc64 sun4u ccache version 2.2 [enabled] ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="sparc" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" CHOST="sparc-sun4u-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/share/config /usr/kde/2/share/confi g /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="sandbox ccache" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="sparc arts avi crypt cups encode esd fbcon foomaticdb gif gnome imlib java jpeg kde libwww mad mikmod motif mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis oss png pdflib qt sdl spell truetype xv xml2 xmms zlib gdbm berkdb slang readline X tcpd pam ssl perl python gtk opengl"
