Description Navid Zamani 2009-12-09 12:56:50 UTC
Thunderbird 3 came out yesterday. But the current version of lightning (0.9) is not compatible with it. But there is a quite stable beta of lightning available that works with it. So if you are going to add a non-masked TB3 ebuild, we also need a non-masked lightning beta ebuild to go with it. Else people will be angry that portage just updates TB3, and their lightning calendaring vanishes. Especially if they depend on it.

Alternatively, if technically possible, mask TB3 in case lightning 0.9 is installed, and unmask it when a later version is about to be installed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install TB2
2. install lightning-0.9
3. upgrade to TB3

Actual Results:
Lightning vanishes.

Expected Results:
Lightning must sill be available.

Is it normal, that a version bump is an “enhancement”, rather than “normal”?
Seems weird to me, since it will become such a big annoyance.

enable lightning useflag on tb and you will be set, maintaining lightning outside of thunderbird is unneeded work.

Interesting proposal. I have to high trust in this actually working, but Ok. If it doesn’t, I have to whip someone’s ass. ^^

Oh, wait, there is no “lightning” USE flag for version 2.0.0.23. (But for other versions.) I’m curious whether that actually works.

It does work and been tested, you will not finding a lightning useflag in anything less then 3.0.
