I do not know what causes this error. When you start any gtk/gnome program (eog, gtkreallm, gthumb, pidgin etc), it cannot load any jpeg or png image and throws an error saying: "Unrecognized image file format" The only exception is Gimp which loads the image but in the file dialog cannot load any thumbnails. Because of this bug gkrellm cannot use any theme also. - This happened sometime around upgrading jpg or png library not long ago. - The whole system is dependency error free (revdep had been run with no errors) - "lafilefixer --justfixit" had been run also. - atk, glib, cairo, pango, gtk+, media-libs/jpeg, media-libs/jpeg-compat, media-libs/openjpeg has been rebuilt several times with no effect - distcc during compile time has been used or not used, i.e. it doesn't affect anything - the system uses all latest packages from portage - KDE works with images without any problem, imagemagick works also What else should i try and give you as info so you can pinpoint the problem?
