Description Bob Raitz 2009-10-08 05:01:29 UTC
after installing emul-linux-x86-baselibs, emul-linux-x86-compat, emul-linux-x86-gtklibs, emul-linux-x86-medialibs, linux-x86-sdl, emul-linux-x86-soundlibs, emul-linux-x86-xlibs, and emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-20091004_rc1 (all the same version), I get the error message listed below:
!!! existing preserved libs:

>>> package: app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20091004_rc1
 *  - /usr/lib32/libjpeg.so.62
 *  - /usr/lib32/libjpeg.so.62.0.0
 *      used by /opt/xulrunner/libxul.so.1 (net-libs/xulrunner-bin-1.8.1.19)
Use emerge @preserved-rebuild to rebuild packages using these libraries

That begins an endless loop of net-libs/xulrunner-bin-1.8.1.19 emerges followed by the above message coming up after net-libs/xulrunner-bin-1.8.1.19 is finished.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-<various_libs>-20091004_rc1
2. get preserved libs error.
3. emerge @preserved-rebuild
4. go to 2

Actual Results:
This error remains until I downgrade to version 20081109. Then the issue disappears, and I can use firefox again, among other things.

Expected Results:
I have many unmet expectations with this round of issues.

This issue, bug #288142, and bug #210067 are all plaguing me on this one. Expedience is appreciated.
Comment 2 Mike Doty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-10 17:20:29 UTC
root cause is jpeg isn't slotted but there is a jpeg-compat that provides the .so.6. This will be included in the next version.

Also, for an immediate fix you can probably symlink .so.7 to .so.62
