Description Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2008-02-14 05:10:51 UTC
As arts is not supported by the Gentoo KDE team, is no longer being developed by KDE and is not used with KDE-4.0, please drop it from the emul-linux-x86-* packages.

Reproducible: Always

I believe there are some binary games that require the arts libraries. Games team: Please confirm that removing arts support will not break binary games.
Comment 6 Tristan Heaven (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-01 00:48:32 UTC
It doesn't look like there are. We can fix/remove any we find later.

Just installed app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-soundlibs-20080810 but running revdep-rebuild I still get:
 * Checking dynamic linking consistency
 *   broken /usr/kde/3.5/lib32/libqtmcop.so.1.0.0 (requires libqt-mt.so.3)

(see bug 204817 and bug 200163 marked as a duplicate of this one)

When is /usr/kde/3.5/lib32/libqtmcop.so.1.0.0 required? Deleting it and running
revdep-rebuild again I get
 * Dynamic linking on your system is consistent... All done.

Couldn't /usr/kde/3.5/lib32/libqtmcop.so.1.0.0 be packaged within
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs?
Comment 9 Mike Doty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-07 19:57:09 UTC
We will be dropping the arts use flag and support in the next set of emul packages. This bug to remain open to remind me...

same here ...
Comment 11 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-10-05 16:39:50 UTC
Mike, can you please take a look on this? Seems that new rc is still providing arts support (and also has USE="+arts")

Thanks a lot

Comment 16 Mike Doty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-10 17:17:38 UTC
ok, so here is the issue: Old binary games link to arts due to their SDL linking to arts. If someone wants to write a arts-stub package that satisfies the linker then I'll include that instead of the arts package otherwise I'll continue to ship arts to only satisfy the linker. We don't have to support arts actually working.

If you come up with a stub library or another idea to accomplish the same thing then please reopen this bug.
Comment 17 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-10-10 19:19:51 UTC
How many old games are still requiring arts? If they are not many, maybe arts 32 libs could be packages on a different package allowing users of other 32bits apps and games to not have to install that libs... :-/
Comment 18 Jeff Mitchell 2009-10-10 19:50:18 UTC
As an alternative, how about a control file to keep revdep-rebuild from continually trying to rebuild the package?

Perl-cleaner also tries to keep rebuilding it; not sure if that could be satisfied a similar way.
Comment 19 Billy DeVincentis 2009-10-17 04:36:29 UTC
I just wanted to mention that I resolved this by emerging app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-20081109
Comment 20 Bob Raitz 2009-10-17 04:56:35 UTC
I resolved it by compiling firefox instead of using the bin. Works for me. The compiled version starts and operates faster, anyway. Yay!
