By the way, bug 284268 is rather old so a duplicate notice may be incorrect. I just also saw that bug 284185 was also marked a duplicate. Feel free to reopen if needed. Thanks

No, it does not.
Either proper versions of hal and udev didn't get
stabled at the same time or you've failed to
keyword proper version of hal for this udev version
(recent versions of hal depend on libblkid from
>=util-linux-2.16).

To clarify, comment 5 was written right after comment 2.
This duplicate notice is indeed incorrect,
as whatever the problem was in bug 182860,
it's not related to the fact, that recently udev
stopped providing libvolume_id, advising (and following that
advice itself) to use libblkid from util-linux.
Hal followed that advice in 0.5.12 (but not in those rc's
that are in the tree).

I have installed sys-apps/util-linux-2.16-r1 and udev-145-r1 so i guess  libblkid should have been used?

Let me rephrase that:
is sys-apps/hal-0.5.12_rc1-r7>=sys-apps:hal-0.5.12 ?
If not, this is still invalid (reread last sentence in
comment 6).
