Description ta2002 2009-04-18 23:15:34 UTC
Upgraded xorg-server from 1.3.0.0-r6 to 1.5.3-r5 (a complete disaster - I now get a whopping sixty frame per second with glxgears).

It seems that the latest intel video drivers have a lot of problems. Every time I try to run mplayer, I immediately get a restart of the X server with this in the log file:

I have searched this a bit, and it seems that the people at Arch have dealt with it the most. They do not recommend running xf86-video-intel at all, and have actually created a package called xf86-video-intel-legacy, which consists of an old intel video driver patched to work with their current version of xorg-server (1.6).

I have tried re-emerging all of the relevant packages to eliminate version mismatches as a potential cause of the problem. It seems that some kind of downgrade (at least temporarily) is necessary as a workaround.

This bug description is quite similar to the one from bug #265386
Maybe a dupe?

That does look like the same problem. It appears to have been closed temporarily when I searched for similar bugs.
