Should we RESTRICT=mirror it? Or only change the LICENSE somehow?

We need to change LICENSE.

Add a new license file (propose on gentoo-dev FIRST), maybe call it IP-Country, and include the copyright details about the database.

Then change LICENSE to LICENSE="Artistic IP-Country"

2.27 is now also from 2009, its also need dbmscript updates prefereble as a patch, searching https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=59666 seams it should be done updates to get atleast my ip in the database, but generating this db needs 2.1G ram tested here in resident ram usage so +1 to gentoo license first

do i need to make a version bump request ?

have localy done the hardwork here, but i am just a user :)
Comment 3 Benny Pedersen 2011-05-22 19:56:41 UTC

It's irrelevant here

<zlogene> !ddep dev-perl/IP-Country
<willikins> No packages have a reverse DEPEND on dev-perl/IP-Country.
<zlogene> !rdep dev-perl/IP-Country
<willikins> No packages have a reverse RDEPEND on dev-perl/IP-Country.
<zlogene> !pdep dev-perl/IP-Country
<willikins> No packages have a reverse PDEPEND on dev-perl/IP-Country.

Just because the dependency is not declared, that doesn't make it irrelevant.

Its one of those pesky undeclared dependencies which people have failed to report until we masked it.

That is to say, given that SA bundles a module that depends on this SA depends on this. Just its not triggered by the stock configuration.

SA should really have a USE=geoip for this.
Comment 13 Benny Pedersen 2015-01-25 00:56:33 UTC
and USE=redis for spamassassin >=3.4.0

but irellevant for this bug here, let it RIP

Are there any way to know which package uses those undeclared deps? ;)

Yes, when users find they need to install deps to simply change a setting, they aught to report that ( they don't always though, but they should )

And the other way we find the hidden deps is we hardmask packages and users complain about it =)

There are ways you can attempt to statically predict deps ... but they're entirely unreliable if anyone is doing anything slightly quirky. ( RTA: loading dependencies dynamically at runtime without using any of the standard tools Perl ships for that purpose )
