Description François Valenduc 2008-12-29 15:44:57 UTC
Since I have upgraded to portage, the following error occurs when the cache is updated:

>>> Updating Portage cache: 39%/usr/lib64/portage/pym/portage/cache/ UnicodeWarning: Unicode unequal comparison failed to convert both arguments to Unicode - interpreting them as being unequal
  if trg.get(k, "") != entry.get(k, ""):

Can somebody explain what's happening ?
Thanks for your help.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run emerge --sync with metadata-transfer enabled (or run emerge --metadata)

Output of emerge --info:

Comment 1 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2008-12-29 18:00:55 UTC
It seems to be the same issue as bug #252748. I've removed the unicode characters from dev-ruby/nokogiri DESCRIPTION metadata, and moved them to metadata.xml.

I'll add a repoman check to prevent this from happening in the future.

Comment 3 François Valenduc 2008-12-29 18:33:52 UTC
This is indeed the same problem as in bug #252748 but it still occurs after having synced my portage tree.
Comment 4 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2008-12-29 18:46:39 UTC
I've removed the unicode in CVS but it will still take some time before it reaches all of the rsync mirrors.
Comment 5 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2008-12-29 20:03:40 UTC
I've added a new "variable.invalidchar" check in svn r12365.
