Tracker bug for multiple cloop issues.
# Jeremy Olexa <darkside@gentoo.org> (20 Dec 2008) # Removed in 60 days, multiple bugs - does not compile with recent kernels. # bug 251795 sys-fs/cloop
For your information, there is a new version of cloop, which claims to run on kernels up to 2.6.28 http://debian-knoppix.alioth.debian.org/sources/cloop_2.628-2.tar.gz Should cloop be removed from the tree, I will probably have to convert to few images to squashfs. I have a good idea on how to do it. However, will future versions of squashfs be able to read images I create now?

Otherwise no one seems to care about it right now. Adjusting removal date to give you a chance to respond.
Created attachment 183447 [details] Ebuild for http://debian-knoppix.alioth.debian.org/sources/cloop_2.628-2.tar.gz Last week (not the one ending today, February 27th, but the one ending February 20th) was a crazy one at my day job. I took what was left of the weekend to relax rather than throughly testing the ebuild against several kernels (hardened-sources and gentoo-sources) and GCC 4.3.x (must prepare a special setup for that; I am a Hardened Gentoo user so GCC 3.4.6 for me. I was also running low on disk space and exhausted the number of DOS-style partitions on my hard drive). While doing a quick search on packages.debian.org , I found another cloop version. Here is the tarball link: http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/cloop/cloop_2.6.28.2.1.tar.gz I found out the one on debian-knopping.alioth.debian.org lacks manual pages and possibly some polish. This weekend, now having a new hard drive, I would test both cloop versions against kernels 2.6.25 to 2.6.28, both gentoo-sources and hardened-sources with hardened GCC 3.4.6 and regular GCC 4.3. If you believe it is too late to save cloop now, you may proceed for the removal. It will brew in my personal overlay and will file a new bug when it will be ready.
You have time, keep us updated :)
Created attachment 185751 [details] New ebuild for http://debian-knoppix.alioth.debian.org/sources/cloop_2.628-2.tar.gz I added device node creation to the ebuild.
Created attachment 185752 [details] Ebuild http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/cloop/cloop_2.6.28.2.1.tar.gz (preferred) This version of cloop has a manual page another changelog. I prefer this one because of the man page. Device nodes are also created. Please correct the keywords and the file names. The lack of a second dot in the Klaus Knopper version scheme (2.628) of the first tarball interferes with the Debian versioning (2.6.28.2.1) of the second tarball and confuses Portage. I have no clue on how to fix it. The Debian version should be newer (higher version). I successfully mounted and read files from a cloop I created three years ago on {hardened,gentoo}-sources-2.6.2[5678]* . The kernels and modules were built with hardened GCC 3.4.6. Now time to check newer GCC versions.

Sorry mate, removed from tree. Please use the Sunrise overlay if you would like to maintain this yourself there.
