XEmacs 21.4.12 has some rather serious stability problems on Gentoo Alpha. I have built the package with CFLAGS="-mcpu=ev5 -g -O0" and using the config flags "--with-system-malloc" and "--pdump" "--enable-debug" all to no-avail. I am attaching a log of the past few crashes as well as the core dumps. If you need any more information please let me know. XEmacs is very important to my use of Gentoo and I will be more than happy to help debug the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. xemacs 2. 3. Actual Results: It exploded and killed a dozen small kittens in the ensuing fireball. Expected Results: A happy, content editor.

Reporter, can you give an example of how to reproduce a crash?
Created attachment 12787 [details] log of crashes
I just attached a log of the crashes (lisp and stack traces), however, the attachment form is not letting me attach the core dumps themselves. As far as reproducing the crashes I can provide no concrete answer as it happens with different things at different times. I will try attaching the core dumps again later today. I also apologize about the multiple copies of this bug, either the server or my browser was being difficult earlier today.
Well, no luck again with the core dumps - do you guys have some place where I could put the core dumps?
wfm. i've tried using it as my editor for the last few days, ive tried all the functions i can find in the menus, i cant make it crash. (im usually a vi user, so i might not be using it to the extent a hardcore emacs user would) reporter: if a crash isnt reproducable every time, can you suggest a function or steps that makes it crash _sometimes_? also, an strace of a crash might be useful. if nobody else can reproduce this, and the strace doesnt offer any clues, i guess this is a WORKSFORME.
It is difficult for me to reproduce on a consistent basis, sometimes it runs for several days, others only for a minute or two. I can provide you with crash dumps but as I said before bugzilla doesn't seem to want to accept them. I have listed a stack trace from gdb in the crash logs attached to this bug report. I am emerging 'strace' as we speak and will provide output as soon as I can. One question to Travis, what version of glibc are you using?
my main workstation is running 2.3.1 (the machine ive been running these tests on), i have a machine with 2.3.2, but it doesnt have X right now, if that looks like the problem i'll put X on it to test.
any update paul?
I was still having problems so in hopes for a quick fix I tried compiling it with ccc the other day. I have been using it off and on for a day now and it seems to be better. However, as a result of this I had moved all of my work related editing off to another workstation and just export the display back to the gentoo box so I haven't been using XEmacs on gentoo a whole lot recently.
