Performing make && make modules_install on PPC kernel. Prior to that had error with emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep gcc running from the LiveCD on an oldworld Mac 9500 PPC (on GCC module 4.1.2). Tried to make the Kernel -- it failed too. Retried emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep world - failed on gcc again. Skipped gcc tried to do glibc - came up wanting to to gcc too replied no. Issued emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep udev -- it and 6 other packages successfully emerged -- however unlike the gcc list udev was the last of the packages emerged instesd of the first. Issued emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep gcc -- it and glibc both completed successfully. Then tried make && make modules_install again -- failed appears different from earlier failure. Steps to continue -- retry make and see if error repeats. emerge --sync then update world the make && make modules_install again. I have around 4 long days and some full nights of compiles invested in this I hope I do not need to start over.
