It's a very useful utility to remotely control and capture images from a canon camera. A lot of settings can be tuned and the utility can be used in scripts, since it's just a cli app (with gtk support for some extra functions like the viewfinder). Although the website states that there are no active code changes, there is a slow development pace going throughout the year. Since they don't actually do releases, I suggest a cvs ebuild. canon-capture depends on libptp2 and the ebuild should probably rename the binary, since "capture" might very easily collide with other projects - I suggest canon-capture. Post, if you have any questions.. Happy upcoming Holidays, cmuelle8 Reproducible: Always
Created attachment 140347 [details] canon-capture-cvs-20080106.ebuild live cvs ebuild, applies v4l patches for canon cameras before building .. does fancy things in combination with vloopback..
Created attachment 140348 [details] canon-capture-cvs-v4l_jpeg.diff.bz2 v4l patch to capture.. if u use v4l alone -> internal decoding and rgb24 streaming if u use v4l and jpeg useflags -> libjpeg decoding with YUV420P (I420) streaming have fun
Upstream of this project seems to be dead, there hasn't been any activity in it since 2007. Moreover, the "keep lens extracted until explicitly allowed to retract it" feature for Canon cameras, which according to the project page was the main feature distinguishing it from GPhoto (which, by the way, supports capture from many more Canon cameras), is now available in the latter too - see the "Configuring for capture" section of http://gphoto.org/doc/remote/ . All in all, seems like a clear WONTFIX candidate.
