Comment 2 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2007-11-07 14:21:17 UTC
hmm well no, its seems more a missing dep I hadnt seen at first when compiling docs:

dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra-2007 (/usr/share/texmf-dist/fonts/type1/hoekwater/manfnt/manfnt.pfb)
Comment 3 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2007-11-07 14:23:40 UTC
@ulrich: it seems I had missed latexextra dep which is needed for the documentation with texlive. I'll check which tex distribution provides it and add the dep under doc useflag. Is that ok for you ?
Comment 4 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2007-11-07 16:43:29 UTC
No problem here in fact.. so it's not a missing dep:
(I had only virtual/latex-base and texlive-metapost merged)

Or this one disabling userpriv (and cleaning /var/cache/fonts to not cheat); I noticed after that userpriv didnt let it write to /var/cache/fonts :

could you give me the list of texlive-* packages you have installed ?

and also try to emerge feynmf with KPATHSEA_DEBUG=-1 (like 'KPATHSEA_DEBUG=-1 emerge -1 feynmf'). This will give a *lot* of output, so I hope bugzie will let you attach the log (in case it's too big, despite all the usual recommendations, attach it as a bziped file :/)

hmm I tried with exactly the same packages merged, still no failure here :/

what's the contents of the directories: /etc/texmf/updmap.d/ and /etc/texmf/texmf.d/ on your box ?

can you attach /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg and /etc/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf ?

Have you modified some files in /etc/texmf/updmap.d and /etc/texmf/texmf.d ?

No. I used only to use texlive-overlay for about a week before merging it into portage
Comment 16 Dirk Heinrichs 2007-11-20 10:26:07 UTC
Just wanted to add a "Me too". And I can confirm that installing texlive-latexextra prior to feynmf fixes the problem.

diffed against mine, they are fine also :/

can you check if you have :
/usr/share/texmf-dist/fonts/source/public/misc/manfnt.mf

can you give me the output of: "texconfig conf" (as root just after an emerge failure for example)

can you also try to replace the "addwrite /var/cache/fonts" in the ebuild by 'export VARTEXFONTS="${T}/fonts"' ? and please post the output here, even if by any chance it doesn't fail.

I'm starting to be out of ideas; I cannot reproduce it so it's hard to understand the problem :/
Comment 18 Maciej Piechotka 2007-11-27 21:36:48 UTC
Is there any chance of doing emerge -av --depclean if this package do not compiles? I need to clean my system but I cannot do it when I have not upgrade it - with feynmf included.

Could you check do you have manfnt.pfb and if you have it in which package?
Comment 19 Martin von Gagern 2007-12-02 21:20:39 UTC
I hit this, too.
Alexis found a difference while working on this with me over IRC.
For him the command
 kpsewhich --format='dvips config'
gave the result /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps, while I got //etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps instead. After I removed this file, the emerge worked all right.

Thanks, Alexis!

manfnt.pfb is part of dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra, but the conclusion is that you don't necessarily need it. dvips should call Metafont to generate manfnt.*pk.

Should have been "kpsewhich --format='dvips config' config.ps"

with texlive-core-2007-r9 it should now output:
//etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps

this revision will use texmf-update to update it, allowing packages to append stuff into it. As a side effect, it will remove the old stray config.ps file that is the cause of this bug.
