Description Michele Balistreri (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-02-05 16:13:24 UTC
I just installed XFree86 4.2.99.4, i have the "microsoftpro" keybord layout, with
the italian keymap. The '<' doesn't work, like if is it broken (i mean, it's not a
wrong entry on the keymap). Trying to use the "pc105" keybord layout, problems
are solved. I have not tried with other keymaps, but i think that the problem is on
the physicall key, for who doesn't know the italian keymap, we have the '<' key on
the left of the 'z', using a QWERTY keyboard

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge XFree86 4.2.99.4
2. Set "microsoftpro" as keyboard layout
Actual Results:
'<' key doesn't work.

Expected Results:
it should work.

I merged xfree 4.2.99.4 last night, and this morning the keymappings were all
messed up. I couldn't type anything properly in X. At the end of my Xfree86.0.log
there was a line that said something about /var/tmp/server-0.xkv (I'm not certain
about the filename.) then complained about keymapping.

I had to remerge x 4.2.1-r2 to get x to work again.

Comment 9 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-02-28 16:27:41 UTC
andreas, what was the exact error with xfree-4.3.0?
Comment 10 Andreas Kotowicz 2003-03-01 10:00:03 UTC
I just tested it with X-4.2.99.902. I had the same behavior as reported before. <> | didn't work. switched to pc105 and they work.
I found something on this topic on the xfree mailinglist:

Comment 11 Sloan Poe 2003-03-02 11:24:21 UTC
I just tried X 4.3.0, and still my entire layout it messed up.
Comment 12 Norberto Bensa 2003-03-24 19:53:10 UTC
I used to have issues with X 4.3 (upgrading form 4.2.1)

emerge -C xfree ; emerge xfree didn't help. I've had to rm -rf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb and
emerge xfree to solve my problem.

Norberto

um, did you run etc-update the first time?
Comment 14 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-08 21:28:25 UTC
please try xfree-4.3.0-r2 (it's currently masked in package.mask, so act accordingly).

please report ASAP.
Comment 15 Andreas Kotowicz 2003-04-09 10:12:38 UTC
I've just upgraded to xfree-4.3.0-r2 along with xft-2.0.1-r2 and now gnome won't startup. do i have to recompile something? I always get the gnome splashscreen and that's it. no error logs, nothing.
Comment 16 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-09 10:20:38 UTC
yeah, try this: /etc/init.d/xfs start
then try gnome again

(are you using gdm or startx, btw?)
Comment 17 Andreas Kotowicz 2003-04-09 10:32:52 UTC
/etc/init.d/xfs restart didn't help :(
I'm using startx btw. and oh, I forgot, microsoftpro works now :)
Comment 18 Andreas Kotowicz 2003-04-10 07:55:42 UTC
ok. I unmerged fontconfig and xft. then I reemerged both and now gnome works again.
Comment 19 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-11 10:02:48 UTC
keyboard issues seem, by and large, to be solved with 4.3.0-r2

brain, can you confirm, please?
Comment 20 Michele Balistreri (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-12 02:48:08 UTC
