What was trying to be accomplished:
  Upgrade GCC 3.3.x to 4.1.x.

Instruction followed:
  (See section 3. Upgrading from GCC-3.3 to 3.4 or greater)

Works all the way until Code Listing 3.6 AT emerge -e system.

Where in the output indicates that?
I have 128 MB of ram and 1 GB of swap.

"Terminated (program cc1)" <- this means cc1 was killed by OOM (Out of Memory), and thus that you do not have enough memory.

So I simply need more RAM?  I have a gig of swap allocated though.

I guess that my question is that isn't a gig of swap enough to have the compilation?
