Description jason zheng 2006-06-16 07:05:56 UTC
I get an emacs segfault when emerge auctex. Emacs was emerged with -O3 CCFLAG. The problem disappeared after re-emerging emacs with -O2 CCFLAG.

Emacs version: emacs-21.4-r3
Auctex version: auctex-11.55

This is not specific to auctex; emacs just today segfaulted for me during the emerge of gpm, and rebuilding with -O2 instead of -O3 made it work here too.

Comment 2 Matthew Kennedy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-08 22:21:19 UTC
Here are the problems:

CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"

  and

CFLAGS="-march=athlon-tbird -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"

Try -O2.
Comment 3 Matthew Kennedy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-08 22:42:25 UTC
This is a big arch stablization request but it is worth it for the sheer volume of bugs which it will preclude.

Comment 4 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-09 06:44:45 UTC
1) emerges fine
2) passes collision test
3) auctex runs fine (even 11.83), works
4) only "problem":
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/emacs-21.4-r4/work/emacs-21.4/lib-src'
 * Fixing info documentation...
 * Fixing manpages...
 * Fixing permissions...
chmod: missing operand after `644'
Try `chmod --help' for more information.

This may be caused by the fact, that there is no file with permission 664, at least my tests couldn't find one.

note, only work with the -r4 ebuild. -r5 (about to be committed) includes a fix for bug 95961 which hasn't had enough testing to mark stable.
