When I close the terminal mc is running in, mc process is still active and needs 100% cpu. Reproducible always. Ways to reproduce: 1. Start any terminal 2. Start mc in that terminal 3. End the terminal without ending mc Workaround: killall mc if mc is still active. reallife ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.0.54 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -pipe -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ ftp://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/gentoo-mirror/ http://gentoo.zie.pg.gda.pl" LINGUAS="en de" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 16bit 3dnow 3dnowext 7zip X aac accessibility acpi aim aimextras alsa amarok apache apache2 apm audiofile avi bashlogger bitmap-fonts blender-game bzip2 c++ ccache cdr cdrom cg chroot ck-server crypt cups curl dbus dedicated dhcp dio disk-cache divx4linux double-precision dri dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam fastcgi firefox foomaticdb fortran gatos gcj gd gdbm gif gimp glibc glibc-compat20 glibc-omitfp glut glx gmail gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 icq idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 irc javascript jpeg lcms libg++ libwww mad math md5sum mem-cache memcache memlimit mhash mikmod mmx mmxext mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mpeg4 msn musicbrainz mysql ncurses net nls no-old-linux nowin nsplugin nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pdflib perl php png python qt quicktime readline ruby sdl sensord spell ssl tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode userlocales utf8 vorbis win32codecs wxwindows xine xml2 xmms xv zlib linguas_en linguas_de userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY * app-misc/mc Available versions: 4.6.0-r12 4.6.0-r13 4.6.0-r14 Installed: 4.6.0-r14
Is there any chance that this bug will be fixed?.. It causes slow shutdown for me if I forget to exit all copies of MC on shutdown...
I have exactly the same problem since I have upgrade to amd64. However, in my case it happens only with KDE konsole, while closing the window of xterm or Gnome Terminal finishes the "mc" process correctly. ( It seems that similar problem has appeared earlier to some other user: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/mc/2003-February/msg00001.html )
