well as it stands ati-drivers once again will not be ready when 2.6.16 is released as final. I am working on the problem, but we will keep everyone in loop here I am thinking. Refer to http://dev.gentoo.org/~anarchy/ati-2.6.16 to see undefines, also includes locations of undefines that need to be fixed before 2.6.16 goes final!!

Created attachment 82781 [details, diff] fglrx-2.6.16-no_iommu.patch This patch made the ati driver compile on my amd64 system.
Support is in the tree thanks for the iommu patch it has been applied.
I can't compile ati-drivers 8.23.7 w/ kernel gentoo-2.6.16-r1 on a ~amd64 system. Will post emerge info as soon as I get something better than lynx to browse the web.
~amd64, kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r1, ATI-DRIVERS 8.23.7 doesn't compile here either. I also tried the patch above, doesn't work. * Installing fglrx module install: cannot stat `fglrx.ko': No such file or directory

Reopen, the fix apparently doesn't work on amd64.
This was fixed it is an issue with gentoo-sources those who are having problems need to test with vanilla-sources before filling bugs that are related to patched kernels outside of kernel.org
