quick look at the config.log shows that it was looking in

I have Gimp 1.2.3-r3 installed. Using GCC 3.2.1 with flags: -march=athlon -O3
-pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -fforce-addr -fprefetch-loop-arrays
just marking as test-request
Can't test until i can install it ;) gimptool reports the currect dirs, btw.

u got libgimp/gimp.h in /usr/local/include ?
Okay, sorry. Figued out that it was filmgimp causing the problem. I had no idea.
Works great here!
works, there seems to be a still newer version out now though (4.3.6)
