Whenever I type an apostrophe in the webpage area of the window, firefox-1.0.1 activates the find bar as though I had hit Ctrl+F; however, further input goes to both the find bar and the dialog I was typing in until a match is found. This does not occur if the focus is on a Firefox text box such as the URL box or the search box. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Mozilla Firefox 2. Make sure that keyboard focus is on the web page area. 3. Type an apostrophe / single quote character (the one on the same key as the double quote on a QWERTY layout) Actual Results: Activated the Find bar in addition to inserting an apostrophe in the active text input area (if any) Expected Results: Inserted an apostrophe into the active text input area (if any) without opening the Find bar Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.11-ck1 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-ck1 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4-r1 [2.3.4 (#1, Mar 6 2005, 05:12:58)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.4 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X aac alsa apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdparanoia cdr cjk crypt cups dvd emboss encode f77 flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 imlib ipv6 jack java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline samba sdl spell ssl tcltk tcpd theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb xml2 xmms xv zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
I think this is not a bug: it's a feature: if you check the help, you'll find in keyboard shortcuts section: ' Find As You Type Link
I can't reproduce this at the moment, so it seems that something triggers a state in which the bug occurs; I haven't figured out what it is yet...
It sometimes activates when typing in forms/the search bar/whatever. Usually restarting Firefox fixes the problem though. And yes, it is a feature, Firefox is just supposed to know better than to open the find bar when you're typing somewhere. The same happens with "/".
Not a bug.
