Description Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2021-12-31 04:09:12 UTC
Reasoning:
* maintainer-needed + open tickets
* package needs many patches to get it (probably) working again
* upstream does not maintain the source anymore. Issues and PRs remain open
* some tickets let me assume, that the software is not usable anymore (for example TLS failure: https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook/issues/525)
* If you love this package, contact upstream and become the new upstream maintainer
  https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook/issues/518
* We cannot maintain such a complicate project by constantly patching it downstream
* We can reintroduce this package any time when upstream is alive again

Reproducible: Always

For the record, it does work, albeit not very reliably. I think I got the TLS error the other day, and I think it's facebook's fault rather than the plugin's - but it comes and goes.
Overall, agree with the approach as the way this thing is built is dreadful to say the least; without an upstream maintainer it can only get worse.
So, raise your candle/lighter/hand for a fallen soldier.
Comment 3 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2021-12-31 11:52:37 UTC
As a previous maintainer of this package, just stating that I agree wholeheartedly with Jonas here. This broke a lot of the time and without an upstream dev to patch it up every other month, it is a lost cause. If someone forks it on GitHub and makes it go, then we can revisit. Until then, it is dead and we should be realistic about that.
