So, I filed a Maintainership Request (#60774) 2 weeks ago, with no response so far. Is there something else missing?

I'm sorry there's been a delay in getting back to you. I'd suggest filing a PR with your ebuild so we can get it included in the tree ASAP. Unfortunately we cannot use the one from the linked overlay due to the non-standard copyright/license header added.
