During the last days, for development necessities I had to switch gcc from version 4.2.4 to version 4.3.1. Most of the ~ 1300 packages compiled like a charm; which implies that the stabilizing efforts are already successful. "Congratulations!" and "Thank You!" for all that have been involved! The following ~ packages had to be unmasked with gcc-4.3.1, but then compiled cleanly: <=x11-libs/qt-4.3.4-r1 ~amd64 <=media-libs/musicbrainz-2.1.5 ~amd64 <=dev-libs/boost-1.35.0-r1 ~amd64 <=dev-util/boost-build-1.35.0-r1 ~amd64 <=app-text/libwpd-0.8.14 ~amd64 <=dev-cpp/gtkmm-2.12.7 ~amd64 <=net-im/twinkle-1.2-r1 ~amd64 <=dev-cpp/libgnomeuimm-2.20.2 ~amd64 <=net-misc/smb4k-0.9.6 ~amd64 kde-meta-3.5.9 then completely emerged flawlessly. Only the following packages were left not to compile, mostly due to strictness checking, and no newer compiling version is available: =app-text/tuxcards-1.2 =sys-block/partimage-0.6.7 =net-misc/hylafax-4.3.0 # latest ~ : hylafax-4.3.1 : also breaks # dependancies of gnome 2.20 : =net-print/gnome-cups-manager-0.31-r2 =dev-libs/elfutils-0.127 =www-client/epiphany-2.20.3 =app-cdr/cdrdao-1.2.2 Perhaps you might prefer to link this status report blocking to Bug 198121 :: [tracker] GCC 4.3 porting ? GCC 4.3.1 will remain in testing for quite a long while. That stable keywordes ebuilds keyworded may not build is the normal case, reporting so is superfluous. Relevant are only package:slot combinations with the most recent ebuild not building with GCC 3.4.1 and for those file one bug for each case, please, assumed such a report doesn't exist yet. Your help is appreciated, but we cannot work with such a bug report.
(In reply to comment #1) > ... superfluous. As well as your "briefing" ... I personally was _very_ happy and impressed about the result: " only 7 out of ~ 1300 ". And in my projects, I personally would defenitely not reject such an overall experience / actual status result as of no value at all. The first part was meant as an honest big compliment for a superb result; I'm sorry if you are not prepared to share it like that ... > ... package:slot combinations with the most recent ebuild > not building with GCC 3.4.1 ... Exactly that is my latter list: "Only the following..." > assumed such a report doesn't exist yet. I had defenitely checked that before. And, btw, what is unclear about "due to strictness checking" ? > Your help is appreciated, Really? > but we cannot work with such a bug report. Unfortunate.
(In reply to comment #2) > > ... package:slot combinations with the most recent ebuild > > not building with GCC 3.4.1 ... > > Exactly that is my latter list: "Only the following..." As I explained such a list is not suited as we cannot assign a single bug holding a list of issues affecting different packages and their respective maintainers to a single alias. This is why you're asked to file one bug for each of these packages and not dump a list in one bug. > Really? Really.
