Description Sean P. Kane 2002-10-28 18:40:47 UTC
Near the very end of an upgrade to Gentoo 1.4_rc1 I needed to do an: "emerge -e
world" This command very quickly fills up /usr/portage/distfiles
and /var/tmp/portage.

I have 2GB of freee space, yet it is still not enough, and if this fails, you
have to start all over again.

There should be a way to tell emerge to emtpy these directories ( --cleandist --
cleantmp ) after it finishes with each package. It seems to only do this at the
end of the whole emerge command currently. This way it would emerge bash, clean
those files, and then emerge X11, clean those files, etc., etc.

This would make such a large emerge even possible on machines with limited
drive space. I however, ended up giving up and just finally doing the install
from scratch (after two unanswered messages to gentoo-dev )

Thanks,
Sean
