licq-1.3.0-r3 works fine, here. I guess it has to do with the crypt USE flag and, maybe, some of the accompanied hacks. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. USE="crypt msn" emerge =net-im/licq-1.3.0-r5 2. start licq 3. activate qt and xosd plugins 4. wait a while when not connected to the net and it will somewhen start to use all CPU time. Maybe the net connection is not important. I don't know.
Please provide output from emerge info for sanity here.

hmm. i can't reproduce it nor on x86, neither on amd64 atm
It looks like the problem is gone, now. I have not the slightest idea what it could have caused... but recently my system has gone somewhat unstable: it gets locked down without any messages, the ondemand scaling governor does not work as expected any more... ain't there a Linux problem wiki somewhere?
that sounds more like a hardware problem. but try to search/ask on forums.gentoo.org or search gentoo-wiki.com i'm closing this as invalid, as it seems to be not related with licq itself
