Description Sven 2005-06-23 18:15:03 UTC
Hi,

i've upgraded from devfs to udev and i decided to set RC_DEVICE_TARBALL to "no".

Although proper modules are loaded, the devices /dev/microcode and /dev/ppp are
missing. I guess this should be part of udevd's default config - if it is a
configuration problem.

I'm using Kernel 2.6.12 and udev-056

"emerge info" etc. can be supplied on request.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

I cannot reopen Bug 76442, so i'm reopening this one:

I definetly have a system, where /dev/ppp isn't create. I can put the module
ppp_generic into the autoload-list, modprobe it manually, remove it and reload
it, /dev/ppp won't be created.

Help me, to track the error down.
What could i try?

Fix you udev rules - re-emerge udev and run etc-update.

comment #3 was a clear instruction, but i have to disappoint you:

i have 2 computers with udev, one creates /dev/ppp autmatically, one doesn't.
both /etc/udev have the same content! (also reemerged udev, like you said).

Still no change. No /dev/ppp on one of the computers.

What to try next?

didn't have CONFIG_HOTPLUG=y in kernel-config.
Now it works.
