Description Joël 2005-06-15 00:48:11 UTC
I've tried both xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2 and xorg-x11-6.8.99.8. They seem to work well, but in Wine applications, widgets such as "button with icons" appear black.

After I re-emerge xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1, everything is fine.

In case it matters, graphics driver is radeon, board is ATI Radeon Mobility M6, running at 1400x1050x16bit.

Kernel is 2.6.11-morph11.

Has someone seen this problem ?

Yes, exactly the same here. xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2 + app-emulation/wine-20050524,
radeon driver, kernel DRI (2.6.10-morph25), ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY,
1400x1050@16bbp (IBM ThinkPad A30). Icons have opaque (black or white)
background where it should be transparent. Tried also with 24bbp, disabled
"UseDGA", "UseXRandR" etc. but so far had no success.

Under xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1 (same system otherwise) icons were displayed as
expected.

Ok, wine team, relax ... xorg team, on your marks ;-)

This (opaque black icons background) also happens when I connect to a
"genuine" win PC via rdesktop and do something like switching the rdesktop
window between fullscreen and "windowed", although initially they are displayed
correctly. I have seen the problem only with specific graphics (mainly
"database icons") from the Lotus Notes client (both R5 and R6.5) yet.

If I use the "-b" flag with rdesktop ("Force the server to send screen updates
as bitmaps rather than using higher-level drawing operations") the icons are
always displayed correctly.

So it seems xorg sometimes has a problem with a certain graphics format.
Unfortunally I do not which format (the "database icons" are held internally by
Notes (=no external file for them), and the rdesktop bitmaps cache is a
"monolithic" file, so I do not how to retrieve those graphics). Is there any
way to "intercept" or "grab" the original format for one of the corrupted
graphics under X?

I can't say anything about icon graphics formats, but here are some details
about my first post:

Older Wine versions (ie: versions before 20050524) also trigger the problem.

Example of win32 applications that exhibit this behaviour:

- Swisscom Directories Phonebook 2005-05
- Ilium Software eWallet 4.0.0

Although these are different apps, both problems are caused by xorg so I'm
marking this as duplicate.

And I thought I was going out of my mind when I first saw this happen to me.
Once I figured out it was xorg-x11 that was the problem I sure was releived.
Glad I wasn't the only one to have this problem.

I should have filled the bug report when I first noticed it.. Guess It was
easier just to mask it and downgrade and hope the problem fixes itself in the
next upgrade.. I'll start doing the bugzilla on the next problem/bug I find.
