I'm not sure if this is a fontconfig issue or not. I noticed a similar problem
in the original fontconfig 2.3.2 report, and in was onlyh suggested to rebuild
some of the docbook stuff. I tried rebuilding every docbook ebuild I cojld find:

# emerge docbook-xsl-stylesheets docbook-xml-simple-dtd docbook-xml-dtd
docbook-sgml-utils docbook-sgml-dtd docbook-sgml docbook-dsssl-stylesheets
build-docbook-catalog

and running docbook-build-catalog but after all this the problem still remains.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Steve Yin 2005-06-11 13:37:03 UTC
compiles fine on my system, and also fontconfig 2.3.2 works great!!
Comment 2 giggles1 2005-06-11 16:19:05 UTC
It builds fine on another of my systems, only the laptop trouble. Also, there
don't appear to be any compilation errors, just the problem with nsgmls.
Comment 3 psk 2005-06-12 04:30:50 UTC
Solved for my by remerging SGMLSpm
Comment 4 giggles1 2005-06-12 11:26:13 UTC

media-libs/fontconfig-2.3.2 fails for me too, but I don't know anything about
docbook (or why I need fontconfig, I suppose its a dependency of another
package). This is the error message:

If this is a non-graphical server-only installation do I need the

Comment 7 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-23 03:30:40 UTC
could text devs please have a look at the docbook issue ?
Comment 8 Leonardo Boshell (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-23 03:45:35 UTC
It looks like fontconfig needs to depend on '~app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-4.1'.

Reporters, please try the following:
  emerge ~app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-4.1
  emerge fontconfig

And let us know if the problem persists. Thanks.

Re Comment 8 From Leonardo Boshell:

WFM:
docbook2man ../fc-cache/fc-cache.sgml
Using catalogs: /etc/sgml/sgml-docbook-4.1.cat
Using stylesheet: /usr/share/sgml/docbook/utils-0.6.12/docbook-utils.dsl#print
Working on:

It stills don't work out of the box:

Solved for me by remerging SGMLSpm
Comment 12 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-21 03:28:02 UTC
It's a bit of a complicated problem. I could add several docbook deps to fix
building the manpages (that is what this is about), but I think that really
should be done upstream. fontconfig as lowlevel lib in my opinion should not
have forced deps on docbook packages. The problem is that if you already have
docbook and it gets detected, but don't have the right catalogs for fontconfig,
then it will bail and this cannot be disabled without hacking in the config script.

I think this should be put upstream.

comment #11 : you should use perl-cleaner (or whatever it is called) when you
update perl, your problem is not related to this bug.

It doesn't work for me.
See my bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=173595 for my build log and my `emerge --info'
Note: Reemerging SGMLSpm doesn't help, either.

error still remains in version 2.4.2
see attachement for details

this is really annoying:
everytime i do a emerge -u world it stops in the middle
