Description Clock 2005-06-08 10:10:35 UTC
I suggest a guide to be written describing how to add arbitrary single font into
Gentoo system so that as many programs as possible start seeing it.

For example let's say a secretary sends me a font that a company is using in
their material and wants me to edit company .doc file in OpenOffice.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Care to write one? ;-)

I've added the bug on the GDP roadmap page (which contains the request list).
Marking this one as LATER until someone steps up.

I'm willing to put in some time on this, but what exactly is needed? Is it just
wanting to know how to get .ttf files from Windows to ~/.fonts (or similar), or
what? There's a wealth of information on the forums. It sounds like the answers
to this bug could/should be appended to an existing Desktop guide or FAQ, rather
than a separate doc page. It seems like any such font guide would be made just
by gathering the HOWTOs on the forums and reposting them.

I'm willing to do just that, but the original request sounds a little vague to
me. After all, some fonts just work by emerging their package, with no manual
editing of xorg.conf necessary. (for example, corefonts and kochi-substitute
work just by emerging and restarting the browser/application to see the results).

(In reply to comment #3)
Yup. I'm working on this. (see bug 108642).
